Frequently asked questions
Last updated:
Are my photos uploaded to your servers?
No. Photos you edit in the browser editor are processed on your device and never uploaded.
Which formats can I geotag?
JPG, HEIC, PNG and WebP photos, in bulk, with GPX and CSV matching.
Can I try paid features first?
Yes. Start a free trial of Pro from the pricing page and cancel any time before it ends.
What is geotagging a photo?
Geotagging means writing a location into the photo file itself: GPS latitude and longitude, and optionally altitude and direction. Geotagr also writes a title, description, keywords and business details as standard EXIF, IPTC and XMP fields, so the information travels with the file wherever you copy or upload it.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Geotagr runs in your web browser on desktop and mobile. Open the editor, add photos, set the location and download the tagged copies. Nothing is installed and your original files are not changed.
How do I set the location?
Search for an address or place name, paste coordinates (decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds or a map link), or click the map to drop a pin. The same location can be written to one photo, a selection or a whole batch.
Which metadata fields does Geotagr write?
GPS position (and optional altitude, direction and accuracy), title, subject, description, keywords, creator, copyright, rating and business details such as name, phone, website and address. They are written as standard EXIF GPS, IPTC and XMP fields that photo apps and websites can read.
Will geotagging improve my Google ranking?
We can't promise that. Google has not published how it uses photo metadata, and some platforms remove metadata when you upload. What Geotagr does reliably is write accurate, consistent location and descriptive information into your files.
Do platforms keep the metadata when I upload?
It depends on the platform. Some keep EXIF and IPTC data, others strip some or all of it on upload to protect privacy. You can check any file with the free Photo metadata checker before and after uploading.
What does the free plan include?
You can geotag photos for free with a monthly allowance. Free and anonymous downloads carry a small watermark. Paid plans remove the watermark and add larger batches, more AI suggestions, unlimited presets and GPX/CSV import. See the pricing page for current limits.
What are GPX and CSV import for?
If you recorded a GPS track while taking photos, GPX import matches each photo to the track by its capture time. CSV import lets you assign locations and text to many files from a spreadsheet. Both are available on paid plans.
What does AI suggest do?
AI suggest proposes a title, description and keywords for a photo based on its content and location, which you can edit before writing. Only a small preview of the photo is sent for the suggestion, and only when you ask for one.
Can I remove location data from a photo?
Yes. Use the free Remove photo metadata tool, or clear the GPS fields in the editor before writing. This is useful before sharing photos publicly from your home or other private places.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
You can cancel any time from Account, Billing; your plan stays active until the end of the paid period. Refunds are handled as described on the refunds page.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account, Data and privacy, type DELETE and confirm. Your account is removed after a 30-day grace period, during which you can still change your mind. See the delete-account page for what is removed and what is kept.
