About Geotagr
Geotagr adds location and descriptive information to photos: GPS coordinates, a title, a description, keywords and details such as the business name, author and copyright. It writes them into the photo files themselves, on your computer or phone, and your photos are never uploaded to our servers.
What Geotagr does
Most photos carry hidden information alongside the picture, known as metadata. Phones and cameras record some of it automatically, such as the date, the camera model and, if location is switched on, the GPS position. Other useful fields, like a title, a caption, keywords or a copyright notice, are usually left empty. Geotagr lets you fill them in and save them in the standard places other software reads: GPS in EXIF, and text fields in EXIF and XMP, including the IPTC Core fields photographers and agencies use.
You open photos in the editor, set the location by searching for an address or clicking the map, and write the text once for a single photo or a whole batch. Geotagr then writes the tags, re-reads each file to check them, and lets you download the tagged photos one by one or as a ZIP. JPG, HEIC, PNG and WebP files can be opened; HEIC, PNG and WebP are converted to JPG so the metadata is widely readable.
Who it is for
- Local businesses that publish photos of their premises, products and work, for example on a Google Business Profile or their own website, and want every file to carry the right place and business details.
- Real estate agents and photographers who deliver dozens of photos per property and need captions, keywords and a photographer credit in each one.
- Contractors and field teams who photograph jobs and want a folder of before-and-after pictures to still make sense, with the job location, months later.
- Stock photographers who write titles, captions and keyword lists before submitting to agencies.
- Travellers and hobbyists whose camera has no GPS, or who want to fix a wrong location before sorting an archive.
Each of these has a short guide: google business profile, real estate, contractors and field service and stock photography.
Privacy is how it is built, not a setting
Geotagr reads and writes metadata inside your browser tab or the app, using code that runs on your device. The image files are not sent to us, so there are no copies of your photos on our servers to leak, analyse or delete. Our servers handle the parts that need one: your account, plan and usage limits, billing, and optional requests such as place search. If you choose to use AI suggestions, on plans that include them, a downsized preview of that one photo is sent through our server to the AI provider to generate a title, description and keywords; nothing else is.
The same care applies the other way round. Location in a photo can reveal where someone lives, so our guides point out when it is wiser to leave coordinates out, and we offer a free tool for stripping them. The details are in our privacy policy.
What we do not promise
Geotagr writes accurate, standard metadata into your files. It does not control what other services do with it. Many platforms resize uploaded photos and remove most of their metadata, and nobody outside those companies knows exactly how their search or maps products use what remains. So we do not promise higher rankings, more views or more customers, and we would be wary of anyone who does. What you get is photos that are organised, correctly credited and honest about where they were taken.
Free tools
Three single-purpose tools run in the browser with no account and no upload:
- Photo metadata checker shows the GPS, title, description, keywords and camera details in a photo, with a short checklist of what is missing.
- Photo location finder reads the location a phone or camera saved and links it to a map.
- Remove photo metadata makes a clean copy of a photo without location, dates, camera details or text fields.
On the web and on your phone
The editor works in any modern browser at geotagr.com/app, on desktop and mobile. There is also a Geotagr app for Android on Google Play that tags photos on the phone in the same way, and an iPhone app is on the way. One account works in both. You can start without signing up within a small daily limit; a free account raises it, and paid plans add larger batches, GPX and CSV import, AI suggestions and team features, depending on the plan.
Who makes Geotagr
Geotagr is made by Mohsin Designs LLC, which develops and operates the website and the apps. Practical guides to photo metadata are published on our blog. If you have a question, a problem or a suggestion, see the contact page.
