How to Remove a Photo From Google Business Profile
November 5, 2026
To remove a photo from your Google Business Profile, search your business name on Google or Maps while signed in as an owner or manager, open Photos, select the photo you uploaded, and choose delete. Photos uploaded by customers can't be deleted by you. You can only report them to Google for review.
Google changes the Business Profile interface often, so button names and menu positions may differ slightly from what's below. The logic stays the same: your own uploads can be deleted, other people's uploads can only be reported.
What do you need before you start?
You need to be signed in to the Google account that is an owner or manager of the profile. If you can't see edit options on your own listing, you're probably signed in to the wrong account.
Check these first:
- The right account. Use the account listed under your profile's users. If several people manage the profile, ask the primary owner to add you.
- A verified profile. Unverified profiles may show limited editing options.
- Which photo you're targeting. Know whether you or a customer uploaded it. That decides which method applies.
If you're not sure who uploaded a photo, the steps below show how to tell.
How do you delete a photo you uploaded?
Open your profile in Google Search or Maps, go to Photos, find the photo under the ones added by you or the business, and use the delete option. This works for any photo uploaded under the owner account.
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the profile.
- Search for your business name on Google, or open Google Maps and select your business. You can also search "my business" on Google to bring up your profile's management panel.
- Choose the option to edit or manage photos. On the current interface this is usually labeled Photos or Edit profile, then Photos.
- Switch to the tab or filter showing photos added by you or the owner. Customer photos usually sit under a separate filter.
- Open the photo you want gone.
- Select the delete or trash icon, then confirm.
The photo disappears from your profile shortly after. Sometimes it takes a while to vanish from every place it was displayed, such as search results or cached views on other devices. Deleting is permanent: if you change your mind, you'll need to upload the file again.
How do you remove a customer's photo?
You can't delete customer photos yourself. You can report them, and Google decides whether to remove them based on its content policies.
- Open your profile in Google Maps.
- Go to Photos and find the customer-uploaded photo.
- Open the photo and look for the flag or the three-dot menu.
- Choose the option to report the photo.
- Pick the reason that best fits, then submit.
Reporting works best when the photo clearly breaks a policy. Examples include photos that are spam, fake, irrelevant to your business, offensive, or show private information. A photo you simply dislike, such as an unflattering shot of your dining room taken by a real customer, is unlikely to be removed.
Google hasn't published exact review timelines. Expect to wait, and don't submit the same report repeatedly. If the photo stays up, you can check the status of your report or contact Google Business Profile support through the Help Center for a follow-up. Whether they act on it is up to Google.
What if the photo was uploaded from a personal Google account?
If you added it as a regular Maps contributor, delete it from your own contributions. This is common when someone on your team posted a photo from their personal account instead of the business account.
- Sign in to the personal account that uploaded the photo.
- Open Google Maps and go to You (or the profile menu), then Your contributions.
- Open the Photos tab.
- Select the photo and choose delete.
From the business account, that photo may appear as a customer photo. That's why the owner delete option isn't available for it. The uploader has to remove it, or you have to report it.
Can you remove your logo or cover photo?
Usually you replace them instead of deleting them. Open the photo section of your profile, pick the logo or cover slot, and upload a new image.
Google may also choose which photo it shows first, regardless of what you picked. Removing a cover photo you don't like doesn't guarantee another specific photo takes its place. If a photo you want gone keeps appearing as the main image, delete it and then upload a better one for that slot.
What if the photo shows a person or private information?
If a photo contains someone's face, address, license plate or other private details, report it and say so. Google has policies for removal requests involving personal information.
If it's your own team or customers in a photo you uploaded, deleting it is faster. Get consent before uploading photos of identifiable people in the first place. What should you do if the photo won't delete?
Try the simple fixes first. Most failed deletions come from signing in to the wrong account or a stale page.
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| No delete button | Customer-uploaded photo | Report it instead |
| No edit options at all | Wrong account or no manager access | Switch accounts or ask the owner to add you |
| Photo still shows after deleting | Caching or delay | Wait, refresh, and check in a private window |
| Photo reappears | Someone re-uploaded it, or it's a different copy | Check both owner and customer tabs |
| Report was ignored | Photo doesn't break policy | Contact support, or add better photos |
| Delete works on desktop but not phone | App or interface difference | Try the other device or a browser |
If a photo keeps showing in Google Images or another search result after deleting it from your profile, it may take time for Google's index to update. Deleting from your profile doesn't control copies on your own website or other sites.
Does deleting a photo also remove its location data?
Deleting the photo from your profile removes it from that listing, but it doesn't change the original file on your phone or computer. That file still has whatever metadata it had.
This matters if the photo carried GPS coordinates you didn't want to share, such as a home address. Google Business Profile has been reported to strip metadata from uploads, but you shouldn't rely on that. To see what's in a file, run it through the free photo metadata checker. To clear location data from files before sharing them elsewhere, see how to remove location data from photos.
Also, if you ever posted the same file to your website, a blog, or another directory, deleting it from Google doesn't affect those copies.
How do you replace a photo with a better one?
Upload a new photo before or right after deleting the old one so your profile doesn't look empty. Clear, recent photos of your real storefront, work and team are the best choice.
If you want the replacement file to carry your business details, you can add GPS coordinates, a title, description and keywords before uploading. The Geotagr editor writes this into the file in your browser, and the photo isn't uploaded to Geotagr's servers. HEIC, PNG and WebP files are converted and saved as JPG. Be realistic about the benefit, though: Google hasn't published how it uses photo metadata, and some platforms strip it on upload. Our post on whether geotagging helps local SEO covers what's known. Frequently asked questions
Can I delete photos from Google Business Profile that customers uploaded?
No. Owners can only delete photos uploaded under the owner account. For customer photos, you can report them, and Google decides whether they break its content policies. Reporting a photo doesn't guarantee it will be removed.
How long does it take for a deleted photo to disappear?
Owner deletions usually take effect quickly on your profile, but the photo may linger in cached views or search results for a while. Google doesn't publish an exact timeline. If it's still visible after a few days, check from a different device and a private browser window.
Can I get a deleted Google Business Profile photo back?
Not from the profile. Deletion is permanent, so you'd need to upload the original file again. Keep a copy of your final photos in a folder before uploading them, so you can reuse them later.
Why can't I find the delete option on my profile?
You're likely signed in to an account without owner or manager rights, or the photo was uploaded by someone else. Check which account you're using, then look under the photos added by you versus those added by customers. If it's a customer photo, use the report option.
Will deleting a photo hurt my Google Business Profile?
Google hasn't published any statement that deleting a photo lowers your profile's performance. Having few or outdated photos can make your listing look less helpful to people, so replace removed photos with current, accurate ones.
Can I remove a photo from Google Maps without owning the business?
If it's your own upload, yes: delete it from your contributions in Maps. If it belongs to someone else, you can report it for review, but you can't delete it yourself.
